About Our Council
The Sacred Hearts Council #11262 was formed in 1994 as a chapter under the Virginia State
Council of the Knights of Columbus - an international fraternal benefit society. Our Council supports
the Catholic Community of Louisa County, Virginia.
The Sacred Hearts
Council provides mutual aid and assistance to the elderly, sick, disabled and needy members of Louisa county and their
families. Financial aid and assistance is also offered to members and families through a substantial
self-owned insurance program.
The Knights of Columbus, and the Sacred Hearts Council, is founded on the observance of four
core principles. They are: Charity, Unity, Fraternalism, and Patriotism.
Charitable Works
| --Within our Order: visiting the sick, supporting widows, transporting ill members to doctor's appointments, performing life chores for the disabled, and conducting social activities for member families. |
| --In support of our parish ministries: acting as Eucharist Ministers, acolytes, ushers, and choir members; doing construction projects on church facilities; supporting the Religious Education Program; assisting the Youth Committee organize and conduct children's programs; organizing and sponsoring social events for parish members, often in partnership with the Women's Guilds. |
| --Within the local community: supporting the annual Santa Council food distribution events; doing construction tasks for the County Habitat for Humanity chapter; sponsoring teams for the annual Relay for Life; supporting the Pregnancy Centers of Central Virginia; conducting twice-a- year Red Cross Blood Drives; sponsoring athletic competitions for at-risk youth; and adopting a segment of State highway for trash pickup. |
| --On a state-wide basis: supporting the KOVAR fund raising efforts to support programs for the intellectually disabled; fund mortgages for group homes; and conducting bowling tournaments for Special Olympics. |
